The 101st US Airborne Division - in English 101st Airborne Division - is a division of the United States Army trained primarily for airborne assault. The 101st, nicknamed the “Screaming Eagles” (after the image on the division badge), distinguished itself during the Second World War, during the siege of Bastogne in December 1944. It also participated in Operation Market Garden in September 1944 and in the Normandy landings in June 1944.
The Mardasson Memorial honors the memory of American fighters who fell on Belgian soil during the Second World War. The Mardasson celebrates the lasting friendship of the Belgian and American peoples.
